Below is information regarding the founding developers and current BCSSI Instructors.
|In Memory of
Michael E. Werner, P.E.
|Daniel C. Duggan
BCSSI Director and Lecturer
|Mike Werner, an original BCSSI director and course lecturer, developed much of the BCSSI course content. Mike was a Professional Engineer with over 40 years of experience in various design and construction roles, as well as in important Building Code Compliance positions, including:
In addition to lecturing and publishing articles on code related issues dealing with seismic anchorage and sway bracing, Mike was a professional member of BOCA, SBCCI, ICBO, NFPA, ASCE, ICC, the ASCE/SEI 19 Committee on Structural Applications of Steel Cables for Buildings and a Corresponding Member of the TS-8 Committee of the Building Seismic Safety Council.
He was also the co-author of the Manual of Code Compliance Guidelines on Earthquake Resistance of Architectural, Mechanical and Electrical Components & Systems, which was honored with the National Earthquake Conference Award of Excellence.
Mike passed away in September of 2013. He was a good friend who will forever be missed.
|Dan Duggan is a BCSSI director and lecturer, and has worked on the development and editing of all BCSSI courses. Dan has over 40 years of experience in the design of fire sprinkler systems and has been involved in earthquake bracing issues since 1989.He has written several seismic bracing calculation programs, including the ScoPe seismic calculation program for cable/sway bracing, and has been awarded patents on several seismic bracing devices, including the Universal Restraint Clip, RS-1 Rod Stiffener Clip and the No-Pry Clip, which substantially increases the load carrying capacity of concrete anchors.
Dan is a continuing member of the NFPA-13 Committee on Hanging and Bracing (since 1997), a member of the ASCE/SEI 19 Committee on Structural Applications of Steel Cables for Buildings, and a member of the UL 203A Standard Technical Panel. He has published numerous articles and lectured internationally on seismic bracing issues.
Dan is also the co-author of the Manual of Code Compliance Guidelines on Earthquake Resistance of Architectural, Mechanical and Electrical Components & Systems, which was honored with the National Earthquake Conference Award of Excellence.
